Zach LaVine talked about his impeding free agency this offseason, after finishing a successful year with the Chicago Bulls. LaVine admitted he will approach free agency with open eyes and keep his options open.

“I plan to enjoy free agency with what it is as a whole. I think you’re going to have to experience A-Z without making any fast decisions. I think that’s something that me and (agent) Rich (Paul) get to go through and experience,” LaVine said, per NBC Sports Chicago.

Clearly, being compensated the maximum is something LaVine desires, especially after being severely underpaid  at $19.5 million per year. After working his way to the upper echelon of the league since he signed his previous contract, LaVine will be compensated as an All-Star.

“It’s unrestricted free agency, for my family and me I have to go into this like it’s a decision where I have to be open-eyed. And obviously I have to make my list and talk to everybody in the summertime.”

Testing the waters will give the Bulls’ superstar an idea of what is out there and will put the pressure on Chicago to come through with a $212 max contract. LaVine has been a huge contributor in Bulls’ resurgence.

He has been named to the All-Star team in each of the past two seasons. He has averaged at least 23.7 points per game every season since 2018-19.

Despite the abrupt end to their postseason run, the entire 2021-22 campaign was a significant step forward for the organization. The Bulls finished for the first time since 2015-16 season with a winning record and made the postseason.
