The Golden State Warriors announced their decision to shut down big man James Wiseman for the remainder of the season.
Wiseman has been recovering from a meniscus repair he had in April 2021. After experiencing a setback in his recovery (swelling in his right knee), the team had no option but to rule him out for the rest of the season.

“Ultimately, very simple: We’re protecting James’ future. It makes the most sense to take this route. Again, I feel terrible for James. He’s been through so much already in just two seasons.
But, his long-term health looks good, the knee looks sound. It’s just a decision that makes the most sense for his own best interest, and his as well,” Golden State head coach Steve Kerr said, via Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
James Wiseman was selected with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft and played the majority of the 2020/21 season. The young big man hasn’t played a single game for the Warriors this year and now has his sights set on being ready in October.
James Wiseman will remain in San Francisco to continue his rehab, which will include strength, conditioning and rest.
For their part, the Warriors will rely on the same roster for the postseason, aiming to have a deep playoff run. They currently are third in the West, at 48-26, and a step away from securing their place in the postseason.
