Warriors GM says team not interested in a reunion with Kevin Durant

Golden State Warriors have appeared as a candidate for Kevin Durant, who demanded a trade from the Brooklyn Nets last month, Warriors’ GM Bob Myers was called to comment on the recent rumors and poured cold water on any reunion with the superstar forward.

“I like our team and where it’s at,” Myers told NBA.com at Wednesday’s ESPY Awards. “I want to give the guys a chance to do it again. We kept most of it together, but we have to stay healthy.

I didn’t think we’d make it last year, but we did. I watch like you do. We’ll see what happens.”

On paper, the Warriors have enough viable pieces to make a trade happen but the Brooklyn Nets are expected to demand a king’s ransom to agree to a trade for Durant. The Heat and the Suns were reportedly favored as Durant’s next destination.

With the likes of Jordan Poole, Jonathan Kuminga, Moses Moody and James Wiseman, and several future picks available, the Warriors could have been a strong candidate for Kevin Durant, but Myers want to see the current core defending the NBA title next season.

“It’s a good group. We’re lucky. It’ll be fun to see. We were really hunting last year. Now I guess we’re back to being the hunted, which I didn’t think we’d be. We’ll see. I think we can handle it.”

The Warriors’ recent championship marked the franchise’s fourth in just eight seasons with the trio of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green. It was their first title without Durant since 2015.

The Warriors has already made notable offseason moves after missing several key role players like Otto Porter and Gary Payton Jr. The team added 2021 NBA champion Donte DiVincenzo, and they are expected to sign veteran forward JaMychal Green.
