Golden State Warriors guard Gary Payton II is expected to be available for Gm1 of the NBA Finals, per Shams Charania and Anthony Slater of the Athletic. Payton has progressed well in his rehab since he went down with a fractured elbow on May 3.

Payton is listed as questionable for Game 1.When Payton’s injury was revealed to be a broken elbow, it was said it would take three to five weeks to heal. Despite playing only 17 minutes a game this season, Payton became an important part of the rotation.

For the past two days, Payton has participated in Warriors practices. Alongside Payton II, Warriors forwards Andre Iguodala (left cervical/disk injury) and Otto Porter (left foot soreness) are also listed as questionable for Game 1 according to the latest report.

Despite being a role player, Payton received votes for the NBA’s All-Defensive team. His ability to defend inside and outside the paint will make him a valuable contributor in the NBA Finals series.

He also made considerable strides in his shooting efficiency this postseason. Payton had made 75 percent of his 3-pointers in the postseason (seven games) before his injury. The Gm 1 of the series will take place on Thursday at Chase Center.
