Golden State Warriors’ forward Draymond Green is nearing a return, according to head coach Steve Kerr latest update.
Green has been sidelined with a back injury, missing the last 24 games of his team. The Warriors are struggling the last eight games, having lost seven of them.
Kerr said Green fully practiced with the team on Wednesday and it appears he could be closing in on a return soon.
“He played 3-on-3 today at our practice,” coach Steve Kerr said on 95.7 The Game’s “Damon & Ratto” on Wednesday (h/t NBC Sports Bay Area).
“[He] played with Klay [Thompson] and James Wiseman, Juan [Toscano-Anderson], Chris Chiozza, Moses Moody, so we had a really good three-on-three workout. And Draymond looked great, moving really well, healthy, confident, as you might expect even talking a little trash. Who knew?”
Green claimed Saturday he’s feeling great, indicating a potential return to action in the near future. In the meantime, the Warriors need Green’s energy and competitive fire to get back to their winning ways.
“Now it’s just continuing to ramp up, continuing to get my conditioning back, continuing to get my feel back, and most importantly, continuing to get regain all of my explosiveness which I am very pleased with where it is today.” Green said Saturday.
Green has been a huge part of Golden State’s success this year. He navigates the Warriors’ offense with his passing and screens, allowing the rest of the team finding open shots.
The Warriors are a plus 9.8 when Green is on the floor. Their net-rating is dropping to a plus 5.4 net rating, when he’s sitting on the bench. The Warriors are allowing 109.9 points per 100 possessions since Draymond has been sidelined with the injury.
The Warriors will need to close the regular season strong to prove their contending status. Draymond Green will play a big role in realizing their aspiration, especially in the postseason.
