The projected no.1 pick of the 2023 NBA Draft Victor Wembanyama officially joined Boulogne-Levallois Metropolitans 92, the club announced. The swift bigman signed a two-year deal, but it’s very likely he will spend only one more season in Europe.
“I am very happy to commit to the Mets,” Wembanyama said. “In addition to having the opportunity to work with Vincent Collet, I have the chance to join an ambitious team project that will allow me to continue my progress as well as possible.”
2004-born Wenbanyama posted averages of 9.4 points and 5.1 rebounds per 18 minutes in the French League in 2021-22 with LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne. He was voted the league’s rising star.
The 18-year-old Frenchman has been a member of LDCL ASVEL Villeurbanne since 2021. However, after the last season, he used the exit clause in his contract and left the Pro A French champs.
In EuroLeague, Wembanyama got to play 13 regular-season matches, producing 6.5 points and 3.8 rebounds in 17 minutes per contest. Metropolitans 92 will compete in the EuroCup next season.
Wembanyama sparked interest from NBA teams as they’re expected to lineup for him ahead of the 2023 NBA Draft. The young forward/center will be eligible to enter the NBA draft next season.
