Tyronn Lue was reportedly close to a deal with the Los Angeles Lakers, before the LA franchise decide to move on with Frank Vogel.
Lue shared his side of the story of why the talks between him and the Lakers fell off in a recent article of ESPN’s Ohm Youngmisuk.
“The Lakers [saw it] more so as like [I’m just] coming to coach LeBron,” Lue said. “No, I’m coming to win. I just didn’t think I was treated fairly. And I wasn’t just going to accept any offer just to get a job. I just thought I was better than that.”
Lue was later joined the Clippers as an assistant to Doc River, before taking the job one year later to build his own squad around Paul George and Kawhi Leonard.
Lue replaced Rivers after the Clippers collapsed in the Orlando bubble succumbing to a painful 4-3 series loss to the Nuggets in the conference semi-finals, after taking a 3-1 lead.
The former Lakers’ guard is writing his own story shooting down the narrative of being a by-product of LeBron James legacy run regarding his first stint as a head coach with the Cavaliers.
Lue led the Cavs with LeBron and Irving dominating to their first championship, despite the fact that Cleveland had to cover a 3-1 deficit in the Finals series vs the powerful Golden State Warriors.
Now, he’s leading the LA Clippers to a play-in spot without Kawhi Leonard for the entire season and without Paul George for most of the season, Lue has certainly overturned that inaccurate notion.
Lue has an unbeaten record against LeBron as a head coach of the LA Clippers. The Clippers are 7-0 against their city rivals with Lue at their bench.
