Turnovers problem, offensive struggles hurt Celtics’ chances again vs Warriors

Boston Celtics has been amidst a memorable playoff run, playing great basketball for most of the time. However, in various games throughout the series, the team appeared stagnant in the offensive end and led to a considerable number of turnovers.

Last night in the loss to the Warriors, the Celtics made 18 of them and added to their rough record(0-7)- when they’re committing more than 16 turnovers. Tatum said the Celtics need to do better in that department if they want to keep the series going.

“We got to be better. We’re hard to beat when we don’t turn the ball over. Clearly, we’re easy to beat when we do turn the ball over,” said Tatum.

Ime Udoka was more concerned about his team’s offensive struggles and the bad start that cost the Celtics during Game 5. Boston started the game down 11 (16-27) as they seemed off in the offensive end with Tatum making his first shot 10 minutes in at the beggining of the game.

“Spacing was an issue with them being physical, especially in the first quarter. They kind of blew up some of our actions. We were playing basically on top of each other,” Udoka said in the post-game presser.

As for the offensive side, Brown, who has been a force to reckon for most of the series, shot only 5-of-18, while Tatum had 27 but had four turnovers. Brown added 5, while Marcus Smart finished with four.

“Playing in the crowd too much has caused a lot of these turnovers. Obviously, Jayson, Marcus having four, Jaylen having five, our primary ball handlers that get caught in some tough spots at times,” Udoka stated.

The Celtics found their own third-quarter wizardly that has long defined Golden State’s success in the second half. Boston trailed 51-39 at the break before charging back with a 35-point outburst in the third.

“When we’re at our best, it’s simple ball movement. I think the third quarter showed that,” the Celtics head coach claimed.

The Celtics will look to bounce back with their third quarter performance providing a direction on what they need to do. Now, they only have to do it consistently on Thursday to remain alive in the Finals’ series.
