Minnesota Timberwolves have been susceptible to comebacks in the first-round series vs the Memphis Grizzlies. In Game 4, the Wolves gave up a 26-point lead to lose the game and allow Memphis to take a 2-1 lead in the series.
They were also up Tuesday in Game 5 by 11 points with less than seven minutes left, but, Memphis was pushed by Ja Morant to another incredible comeback win. Minnesota will try to change the momentum of the series again on Friday in a “must-win” game at Target Center.
“We’ve got three dudes on the team who think they all can make the shot in me, D-Lo and KAT,” Anthony Edwards said Thursday, via NBA.com. “So it’s kind of like, ‘OK, he’s got it, let him try it.’ [Then] I got it, ‘Let me try.’ We’ve got to come to an agreement of, ‘Let’s just move it and get the best shot.’”
The Timberwolves obviously need to play smarter to prevail over a team that has multiple high basketball IQ players. More importantly, Chris Finch and his players know that Minnesota need to execute smarter in offense, especially when they have the lead.
“We’ve got to make the right plays, not hit home runs. We should be resting [for the conference semifinals], just like Golden State. But we made some mistakes, we’re a young team, we’ve got to learn from it and bounce back,” Wolves’ swingman Malik Beasley said Thursday.
The young Timberwolves will experience their first must-win game in a playoff series Friday. It will be interested to see if they will approach the game with patience in order to bounce back from a bad Game 5 loss.
