Los Angeles Lakers’ search for a new head coach continues as Terry Stotts became the first candidate to go through an in-person interview with the LA franchise, per ESPN Adrian Wojnarowski.

According to NBA beat reporter Mark Medina, the former Blazers head coach is intrigued and excited by the prospect of coaching Russell Westbrook and the rest of the Los Angeles Lakers’ superstar.

Despite the rumors of wanting to offload Westbrook’s contract this summer, the Lakers are hoping they could find a coach, who can utilize Westbrook’s talents alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

In any case, the Lakers narrowed down their options to three finalists for the head coaching vacancy. Stotts was the first one to get interviewed. Darvin Ham and Kenny Atkinson are soon to follow.

Scheduling an in-person interview with the Warriors’ assistant Kenny Atkinson is complicated because Golden State is in the Western Conference Finals. Ham’s season with the Bucks finished recently after Milwaukee eliminated in the second round of EC playoffs.

Stotts, Ham and Atkinson are reportedly the only finalists for the position. However, Marc Stein reports in a Substack piece that a source close to the situation believes the list under consideration is “still wider” than that trio.
