Los Angeles Lakers have interviewed several candidates for the head coach vacancy. From Mark Jackson to Terry Stotts and several assistant coaches like Darvin Ham, Kenny Atkinson and Charles Lee.
According to The Athletic (h/t to USA Today Sports), there are two front-runners for the position as of now. More specifically, the former Blazers’ coach Terry Stotts and the 2021 NBA champions and Bucks’ assistant Darvin Ham are favored for the position.
“The Lakers have already been linked to over a dozen candidates for their head-coaching vacancy, but none of them have emerged as a clear front-runner yet. Ham and Terry Stotts are probably the closest to current favorites.”
Ham served on Mike Brown’s staff from 2011-13, when the current Warriors assistant was the head coach of the Lakers. Following his stint in LA, Darvin was hired on Mike Budenholzer’s staff in Atlanta.
He spent the next seven seasons alongside Budenholzer in Atlanta and Milwaukee. Terry Stotts has more experience as a head coach spending nine seasons with the Portland Trail Blazers and leading them to eight postseason appearances.
Stotts had a long, successful run with the Blazers starting in 2012, and he owns a 402-318 record in Portland. He also served as a coach with the Hawks and the Bucks during his 13-season NBA career.
