Phoenix Suns coach Monty Williams has been named Coach of the Year for the 2021-22 regular season, per Shams Charania of The Athletic. He was also a candidate for the last season’s award.
Williams guided the Suns to an NBA-leading 64-18 mark this past season. He edged Memphis head coach Taylor Jenkins, who led the Grizzlies to the second-best record in the Western Conference. Eris Spoelstra was also in the group of finalists for the award.

Phoenix signed Williams to a five-year deal in May 2019. The 50-year-old guided the squad to its first NBA Finals berth since 1993 last season. He led the team to back-to-back 50-win seasons.
Williams was already named Coach of the Year by his fellow NBA coaches for the second straight season. He has a 149-78 record in his career in Phoenix. The Suns have progressed in the playoff as the top seed in the NBA.
The Suns got past the Pelicans in the first round to face Dallas in the Western Conference semifinals. They are at 2-2 after going up 2-0 in the series, as they’ll return to Phoenix for Game 5.
