Steve Kerr on Sunday cleared the NBA’s health and safety protocols and he’s about to return to his duties of coaching the Golden State Warriors. Kerr will make his return to Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals.
The veteran coach tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of Game 4 of the Western Conference semifinals vs the Memphis Grizzlies. Assistant Mike Brown took over as acting head coach the same he was named the Sacramento Kings head coach.
Kerr missed three straight games with the Warriors being up 2-1. Brown led the team to two more wins in the next three to advance to the Conference Finals. They’ll face the winner of Sunday night’s Game 7 between the Phoenix Suns and Dallas Mavericks.
“Mike was fantastic,” Kerr told reporters. “The whole staff was great. For Mike in particular, what a difficult spot to be put into.”
Conference Finals in the West start Wednesday with the Warriors getting ready for either Dallas or Phoenix. Luckily for them, they will have their head coach back.
