Steve Kerr says Stephen Curry reminds him of Tim Duncan after Warriors’ triumph

Steve Kerr has played with and coached many greats in his career, and he knows that Stephen Curry has been the most important piece of the Warriors’ dynastic run the last eight seasons.

After completing his fourth championship campaign with the Golden State Warriors, Steve Kerr spoke about the effect Curry had in the franchise and his teammates comparing him to the great Tim Duncan.

“I’ve said it so many times, Steph reminds me so much of Tim Duncan. Totally different players. But from a humanity standpoint, talent standpoint, humility, confidence, this wonderful combination that just makes everybody want to win for him,” Kerr claimed.

Kerr played alongside Tim Duncan and won two championships as a player. Duncan’s winning mentality brought five championships to the San Antonio Spurs throughout the years, and cemented his legacy as one of the greats in the modern era of NBA basketball.

I’m obviously thrilled for everyone in that room, and a lot of people had a big hand in this, but I think the thing with Steph is, you know, without him, none of this happens,” Kerr continued.

“That’s not taking anything away from Joe and Peter’s ownership because they have built an incredible organization. Bob Myers, hell of a GM. Our players, we have had so many great players, but Steph ultimately is why this run has happened. Much like Timmy in San Antonio,” the veteran coach continued.

That was the ninth in Kerr’s career being present in the Bulls’ second three-peat alongside Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen as well as having a presence in the first years of the San Antonio Spurs reign in the NBA from 1999 to 2014.

He has won his fourth title as a coach with the Golden State Warriors in his sixth Finals’ appearance with the team since he joined the franchise in 2014. Kerr said that the 2022 NBA title is the crowning achievement in Curry’s career.

“I’m happy for everybody, but I’m thrilled for Steph. To me, this is his crowning achievement in what’s already been an incredible career,” Kerr concluded.

Curry led the Warriors all series long in the Finals and even in the previous series in the Western Conference against the Nuggets, Grizzlies and Mavericks. Curry and co. had to go through Jokic, Morant and Doncic before facing the Celtics, who had their own amazing journey.

In 22 playoff games this postseason, the Warriors’ superstar had averages of 27.4 points, 5.9 assists and 5.2 rebounds per shooting 45 percent from the floor, 39 percent from beyond the arc and 82 percent from the free throw line.
