Stephen Curry was the face of the Western Conference Finals as he became the first player to win the Magic Johnson Western Conference MVP award. The NBA created the award this season in an effort to recognize great performances prior to the NBA Finals.

The Warriors clinched their place in the NBA Finals for the sixth time in the last eight seasons with Curry being the centerpiece. The Warriors returned to contention this season after missing the playoffs back-to-back years.

Even though Curry only scored 15 points, shooting 5-of-17 in Game 5, it was his overall performance that led to him earn the award. It should be noted, the trophy only takes the Western Conference Finals series into consideration.

Curry averaged 23.8 points, 7.4 assists and 6.6 rebounds shooting 42.4 percent from beyond the arc. The Warriors eliminated the Dallas Mavericks and Luka Doncic in five games.

The will wait to see if the Boston Celtics, who are up 3-2 vs Miami in the Eastern Conference Finals, will be their Finals’ partner for the 2021-22 season. As of now, the Warriors savor the moment after returning to the biggest stage of basketball.

”For our team, our guys, especially the core group, to be part of that six times in eight years, I don’t even know what to say,” coach Steve Kerr said, via NBA.com. ”It just takes an enormous amount of skill and determination and work.”
