Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors were able to close the series vs the Memphis Grizzlies in six games (4-2) and advance to the Western Conference Finals for the first time since 2019.
Curry was given a hard time during the series by the Grizzlies’ defense as Memphis earned the respect of their opponents with their amazing play. Unfortunately, Memphis did not have Morant available for the last two games of the series.
However, Steph Curry explained that the young Grizzlies will be around for a long time playing at the highest level. The Grizzlies was the team that beat the Warriors last season in the play-in tournament, so both sides created a small rivalry.
“They have personnel to bother a lot of your normal actions in terms of Dillon is going to press up knowing that he’s got help behind him, and he’s a pretty good defender where at the first line of attack, it’s not going to be easy,” the Warriors star said on Memphis.
In the first half, Curry had 14 points on 4-of-13 shooting, having a tough time to get in his spots. The same continued in the third quarter, when he shot an abysmal 0-of-5 from beyond the arc.
The Dubs superstar picked up the slack in the fourth quarter where he put up 11 points on 3-of-5 shooting to create some separation and help the Warriors secure the Game 6 victory.
After the game, Ja Morant, who missed his team’s last two crucial games, took social media to call the matchup vs Curry his favorite one. The Warriors’ superstar returned the favor in the post-game presser.
“He’s a problem. I mean, his numbers are crazy. We were up 2-1. So still had confidence he could finish out the series, but he requires all of your attention. Is he in his third or fourth year? Sky’s the limit,” Curry said on Morant.
He then praised the Grizzlies’ team as a whole.
“Like I said, they are going to be around for a long time, you know, fighting for Western Conference prowess,” he continued. “… You have to understand that they are going to be around for the long haul, and he’s a problem.
So, definitely an amazing match-up, fun, entertaining, high-level basketball, all the antics and pettiness and all that stuff, I love all of it. So see what happens”.
