Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors have a huge amount of experience regarding the NBA playoffs. On the other side, the up-and -coming Memphis Grizzlies experienced a meteoric rise the last two seasons.
The Warriors were in the same place that the Grizzlies are now as they were learning the difference between the regular season and the playoffs. Prior to Game 1 of the Golden State-Memphis semifinal series, Curry drew a comparison between the Warriors then and the Grizzlies now.
“Everybody has its own journey, so comparison is getting kind of difficult” Curry said in his statement.
“In terms of a young core trying to make that next step in terms of winning a playoff series, understanding the difference between the regular season and the playoffs, the intensity, the level of execution, the focus it takes…there’s so many things you learn”
The Warriors finished off an undermanned Denver team in five games avoiding any missteps at the start of the series and taking an early 3-0 lead. On the other hand, Memphis had to grind their way to six games to finish a tough opening round series vs the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Ja Morant struggled to shoot the ball in those series despite his excellent averages of 21.5 points, 10.5 assists and 8.7 rebounds per game. However, the Grizzlies showed resiliency and kept their focus to beat another young team in Minnesota.
“They’re a really talented team. They build a foundation through player development, through really smart drafting investment. They are well-coached. You’re putting that together, it means we have to execute well to beat them,” Steve Kerr said of the Memphis Grizzlies team.
The Warriors-Grizzlies series is starting Sunday with Game 1 of the Western Conference semifinal series in Memphis.
