Philadelphia 76ers wing Matisse Thybulle has been the subject of trade rumors ahead of the 2022 offseason. The Sixers’ forward is on his last year of his deal and he’s eligible for a contract extension.

Thybulle closed the season on a bad note as he was a non-factor in the offensive end and put a dent in the Sixers offense during the postseason with teams packing the paint. Thybulle’s offensive shortcomings are known, however his defense is an another story.

One of the best wing defenders in the league and part of the All-Defense Second Team, Thybulle is expected to draw interest from other teams. It was reported that the Chicago Bulls are in need of a player like Thybulle and would love to inquire about him.

However, according to Kyle Neubeck of the Philly Voice, the Sixers are not going to just dump the Australian for salary relief, as it was reported the previous days. According to Neubeck, Thybulle is not untouchable, but, it’s unlikely for the Sixers to trade him this season.

More specifically, Neubeck explained that Thybulle’s contract is at $4.5M for the coming season. Furthermore, Philadelphia will probably keep the defensive wing as an insurance after Danny Green went down with a serious injury.

Thybulle does not seem to be much different from the player he was three years ago coming into the league. In any case, his presence in the team’s roster seems to be guaranteed for now considering the Sixers’ needs this offseason.

The Sixers suffered another second-round exit this past playoffs falling to the Miami Heat in five games. They got out of the series vs Toronto in the opening round in six games, but they were unable to do the same against the top-seeded Miami.
