The Philadelphia 76ers have emerged as frontrunners to sign PJ Tucker, if he doesn’t re-sign with the Miami Heat.
The veteran forward has decided to decline his player option and hit free agency. Miami remains the favorite to re-sign him, but if that doesn’t happen, the Sixers will be in pole position to land him.
Per the Philadelphia Inquirer, the team intends on offering PJ Tucker a three-year, $30 million contract. “If P.J. Tucker is prepared to leave Miami, Philadelphia is regarded as by far the favorite to sign him away,” Marc Stein reports.
If he decides to not return to Miami, then Philadelphia could be the best option for Tucker, especially with the high praise he received from Joel Embiid.
“He [PJ Tucker] believes that no one can beat him. And he’s tough. He’s just physical, and he’s tough…We never had P.J. Tucker. That’s really what I’m trying to say.
So, I think physicality – especially once you get to the playoffs or the later rounds – you need that. You need those guys that are really tough,” Embiid said after the Heat-Sixers playoff series, via NBC Sports.
