Simone Fontecchio signs two-year deal with Utah Jazz

Baskonia forward Simone Fontecchio has agreed to a two-year deal with the Utah Jazz, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports. Fontecchio’s three-year deal with the Basque club includes an NBA exit clause that expires in July.

The Utah Jazz have agreed on a two-year, $6.25M deal with Italian forward Simone Fontecchio of Baskonia in the Spanish ACB, his agent Sam Goldfeder of @ExcelBasketball tells ESPN. @DraftExpress considers Fontecchio, 26, the best available international small forward prospect. — Adrian Wojnarowski (@wojespn) July 17, 2022

Fontecchio had 11.0 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 26 minutes per contest through 26 EuroLeague games. The 26-year-old forward shot 40.2 percent from beyond the arc.

In the Spanish ACB League, he averaged 12.5 points and 3.7 rebounds in 25:38 minutes over 38 games. Per the same report, the Los Angeles Lakers also showed interest in the Italian national.

The Utah Jazz are entering a new phase after trading away Rudy Gobert, and they are also negotiating a potential trade for fellow All-Star Donovan Mitchell. Obviously, Fontecchio will serve as a potential veteran player in a young rebuilding squad.

Baskonia has made two signings so far this offseason adding forward Daulton Hommes and point guard Markus Howard.
