Russell Westbrook has parted ways with long-time agent Thad Foucher due to “irreconcilable differences,” ESPN reports. In a statement that was shared by Foucher, the split stemmed from Westbrook’s insistence on forcing a trade out of Los Angeles.
The Lakers will have to attach added value with Westbrook to facilitate a deal, and Foucher believed this move will hurt his former client value. The Lakers acquired the 2016 MVP last August from the Washington Wizards in a five-team trade.
In his first season in Los Angeles, he averaged 18.5 points, 7.4 rebounds, 7.1 assists, and 1.0 steals in 78 games. The Lakers acquired Westbrook last August from the Washington Wizards in a five-team trade.
If the star-guard forces his way out of LA, this will be the fourth time he is getting traded in the last four years. It was clear Westbrook did not fit with the Lakers’ personnel last season, and the lack of shooting hurt Westbrook’s chances to have an impact.
A nine-time All-Star and two-time scoring champion, he has averaged 22.8 points, 8.4 assists, and 7.4 rebounds, playing over 1,000 career NBA games. He became the first players in more than 50 years to average a triple-double in a season, back in 2016.
The former MVP will likely want a change of scenery ahead of the 2022-23 season after a disappointing campaign with the Lakers during the past year. The Lakers finished out of playoff contention for the first time since 2018 and they lack the assets to retool their roster.
