Los Angeles Lakers disappointing season came to an end with a miserable loss to the Phoenix Suns. Russell Westbrook was asked to address his future with the franchise after the game.
In his answer, Westbrook revealed he’s willing to give things another try as the Lakers lost all hope to make the postseason this year. The Lakers had a disappointing year due to several reasons, like the inability of their core to remain healthy and the poor roster construction.
“That’s the plan. Nothing is promised,” Westbrook said, per Harrison Faigen. “You kind of have to take it one day at a time. Like I’ve said all season long, you got to play the cards you’re dealt.”
The trio of Westbrook, LeBron James and Anthony Davis played only 21 games together. However, there is no guarantee that this trio would be able to salvage the season, especially when you take into consideration the lack of depth, due Westbrook’s deal.
“We want to be able to see what that looks like, what that entails over the course of an 82-game season, but we’re not sure if that’s guaranteed,” Westbrook continued.
Westbrook himself was up and down this season, although he has played very well in the last several games. He put up 28 points, on 10-of-20 shooting, on Tuesday, even though he had six turnovers and just three assists.
It is believed the Lakers will part ways with the 2016 MVP this offseason. His contract, worth 47$ million, will put a dent in the Lakers’ hopes to improve the roster next season.
The LA franchise gave up a good amount to get him, as they dealt key role players in Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Kyle Kuzma, Montrezl Harrell and a first-round draft pick.
The Lakers have two games remaining to seal an awful season for the franchise, despite starting the year as a team among the favorites to win the 2022 NBA title.
