Russell Westbrook likely to start if he remains with Lakers

Russell Westbrook has been in the middle of trade rumors since the start of the offseason and his future with the Los Angeles Lakers remains uncertain.

The 17-time NBA champions seek to trade him to another team, but they have failed to strike a deal so far.

As a result, it is likely he will remain with the team for the 2022/23 season and will become an unrestricted free agent next summer.

According to Jovan Buha of The Athletic, Russell Westbrook will likely be a starter for the Lakers this year, if he remains with the franchise.

Until now, the Lakers have attempted to send Westbrook to the Brooklyn Nets in exchange for Kyrie Irving. At the same time, they have included him in a trade package for Indiana Pacers’ duo of Buddy Hield and Myles Turner.

In addition, the Utah Jazz and the New York Knicks have showed interest to acquire the multiple-time All-Star. However, no deal has been made so far.

Russell Westbrook averaged 18.5 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 7.1 assists in 78 games with the Lakers last season.
