In his first season with FC Barcelona, Rokas Jokubaitis has established himself in the team’s rotation. He will have an important role in the upcoming EuroLeague Final-4 in Belgrade.
Jokubaitis was a second-round pick last season for the New York Knicks. The Knicks will send scouts to the Final-4 Belgrade to watch the promising guard and other European stars, per New York Post.
The report suggests the Knicks will let Jokubaitis play for at least one more season with FC Barcelona. The NBA team prefers to give the Lithuanian one more season to polish his game.
The Knicks also may have cap space in 2023 with all their expiring contracts, giving them flexibility to offer him more than the $1 million minimum for second-round picks.
The Lithuanian guard averaged 7.2 points and 2.8 assists per game in EuroLeague and shot a sensational 58.9 percent. Barcelona will face Real Madrid while Olympiacos takes on Anadolu Efes Istanbul in the other matchup Thursday night.
According to NY Post, Barcelona is not expected to allow Jokubaitis to play for the Knicks during the Las Vegas summer league. They will also be owned a buyout if the Lithuanian make the jump to play in the NBA.
The Knicks took Jokubaitis 34th in the draft. They gambled with an “Eurostash” letting defensive specialist Herb Jones to go to the Pelicans one pick later. They also had the 36th pick and took point guard Miles McBride.
