Raptors’ rookie Scottie Barnes out of Game 2 vs Sixers

Toronto Raptors rookie forward Scottie Barnes was ruled out from Game 2 of the series vs Philadelphia. Barnes was considered doubtful on Sunday, but Toronto was eventually ruled him out for Monday’s contest.

“Scottie’s out,” Nick Nurse told reporters. “Gary is not here for shootaround, he’s still doubtful and Thad is, I mean, he’s got some damage there in his thumb.”

Barnes went down with a left ankle sprain when 76ers star Joel Embiid accidentally stepped on his foot in the fourth quarter of Game 1. Thaddeus Young (thumb) and Gary Trent Jr. (non-COVID illness) are also doubtful for Game 2.

The rookie of the year award finalist was the best player of his team during Game 1. He had 15 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists in 31 minutes before exiting with the injury. The Raptors lost the game comfortably 111-131 in Philadelphia.

The Raptors entered the series with a real chance to upset the 76ers. However, they will likely be minus three players in Game 2 Monday. Nurse has declined to give a reliable timeline for Barnes.

“I don’t know,” Nurse said. “Might be soon. We just have to see. Feeling better, though, each and every day.”

The Raptors will hope to bounce back from a disappointing Saturday loss in Philadelphia. They will play the Sixers on Monday night in Wells Fargo Center.
