Raptors, Fred VanVleet working towards contract extension

The Toronto Raptors and Fred VanVleet are working towards a contract extension that will keep the All-Star guard in the team long-term.

And according to Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report, the contract extension will be for four years, worth over $110M.

“Toronto and Fred VanVleet appear headed towards a contract extension that could approach four years and over $110 million, sources told B/R.

Thaddeus Young is expected to find a two-year agreement worth at least $10 million to rejoin Toronto,” Fischer reports.

Fred VanVleet first joined the Raptors back in 2016. After spending a year in the G-League (2016/17), he became a member of the main roster.

In 2018, Toronto signed him to a two-year, $18M deal and re-signed him in 2020 on a four-year contract. The 28-year-old guard has a player option in his contract in 2023 and will be a free agent in 2024.

Therefore, the Raptors want to avoid taking any risk of losing him and that’s why they have offered him a contract extension.

The 2019 NBA champion has career averages of 13.7 points, 4.9 assists, and 3.2 rebounds. Last year, he averaged 20.3 points, 4.4 boards and 6.7 assists, helping Toronto finish fifth in the East.
