Quin Snyder reportedly emerges as possible successor to Gregg Popovich in Spurs

Quin Snyder has been emerged as a possible successor of Gregg Popovich in the San Antonio Spurs, whenever Pop decides to retire, according to Marc Stein (h/t to Hoopswire).

Snyder was part of the Spurs’ organization in the past. He was the Austin Spurs head coach for three years (2007-2010) before joining the Utah Jazz in 2014.

Snyder created a strong core headlined by Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell in Utah and led the Jazz to the multiple postseason appearances.

There is no indication that Snyder’s job is in jeopardy, however, Utah appointed Danny Ainge as the new president of basketball operations earlier in the season.

At the same time, there is also no indication that Popovich will retire soon after becoming the All-Time leader regarding the most wins as an NBA head coach.

Popovich has been reportedly rejuvenated by the current young Spurs’ core. According to RC Buford, “he continues to be focused on building the future of the team,” via NBA.com.

The Spurs will fight for a play-in spot in the remaining games of the regular season. They are sitting at 26-42, 2.0 games behind the final spot of the play-in tournament.

If the Spurs don’t make the playoffs, this will be the third consecutive year away from the postseason. Before that, they had 22 consecutive playoff appearances in the 26-year stint of Gregg Popovich in the Spurs’ bench.

The Jazz are in better position under Quin Snyder being among the top teams in the West. They are at 42-25, which ranks them fourth in the Western Conference.
