Utah Jazz season came to an end and Quin Snyder has denied discussing his contractual status with the franchise amid rumors for being among candidates for the Lakers’ head coach position.
The Jazz started the year 26-10, but finished 23-23 and dropped to fifth in the Western Conference with a 49-33 record. Utah eliminated in six games (4-2) from the Dallas Mavericks in the 2022 NBA playoffs.
Snyder finished the season with a disappointing first-round exit with the Utah Jazz. However, he declined to discuss the situation around a potential extension with one year left on his contract.
“My family loves it here,” Snyder said, per Eric Walden of the Salt Lake Tribune.“… The experience continues to be a great one. … Beyond that, I continue to maintain that I’m not going to discuss my contractual situation publicly.”
The Lakers already have contacted interviews with several candidates for the head coaching position after parting ways with Frank Vogel some weeks ago. The LA franchise is coming off a tough season finishing with a disappointing 33-49 record.
Despite the high expectations, the “Purple and Gold” franchise had severely underperformed during the 2021-22 regular season. In addition to the coaching change, the Lakers are expected to re-tool their roster around LeBron and Anthony Davis.
The Milwaukee Bucks assistant Darvin Ham was also to be interviewed for the vacancy. However, the LA franchise could wait for a more familiar name to become available like Snyder or the Sixers’ head coach Doc Rivers.
Earlier today, the Sacramento Kings announced the hiring of the Warriors assistant coach Mike Brown, who was also among the candidates for the Lakers’ bench.
