The Detroit Pistons will be selecting a top talent from the upcoming draft with the no.5 overall pick. The Pistons review many players ahead of the 2022 NBA Draft, which will take place in Brooklyn on June 23.

Purdue guard Jaden Ivey is reportedly drawing “mixed reviews” from the Detroit Pistons. Ivey is expected to be a high-lottery pick. James L. Edwards III of The Athletic reported Thursday the Pistons are running “hot and cold” on Ivey. (h/t to Bleacher Report)

Auburn’s forward Jabari Smith Jr. seems to be the most likely player to be the first off the board as NBA executives see the Orlando Magic picking him at no.1. In any case, the trio of Smith Jr., Chet Holmgren and Paolo Banchero are expected to be the top-three picks.

Ivey is coming off a sophomore season with the Boilermakers where he averaged 17.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.8 threes across 36 appearances. Ivey has certainly an upside to become an All-Star during his NBA career.

His offensive efficiency seems to be the only concern for the explosive guard, who took the NCAA by storm during the past season. The 2022 First Team All-Big Ten selection shot a 46 percent from the field and 35.8 percent from three-point range in 2021-22.

Edwards notes the Pistons are showing interest in several other prospects, like forward Keegan Murray and Arizona wing Bennedict Mathurin. However, they would like to match Cade Cunningham with another great talent.
