After Chris Paul went down with an injury, Devin Booker will miss Phoenix’s next few games after entering health and safety protocols, Shams Charania of the Athletic reports.
Booker had been playing as a point guard in the past week, after Chris Paul was sidelined with a fractured finger. Paul will probably miss the rest of the regular season, but he will be ready on time to play in the postseason.
For the moment, Booker is the only Suns‘ player in protocols, the team says. The Suns are expected to be shorthanded in the perimeter for the coming games.
Backup guard Cameron Payne is set to return to action after missing 16 games with a right wrist sprain. Booker expected to be out for at least five days. That means he could miss the games against Portland, New York and Milwaukee.

If the superstar guard returns two negative tests in a period of 24 hours, he could be back in the lineup earlier. This is the second time this season that Booker has been placed on the Suns’ COVID-19 list.
The Suns are the top team in the NBA with a 49-12 record. They are in the midst of a two-game losing streak. However, they are six games ahead of second-placed Golden State Warriors.
Phoenix will face Portland Wednesday night, hoping to return to its winning ways. With Booker out, Aaron Holiday, Elfrid Payton and Landry Shamet might share the burden in the guard positions.
