Pelicans star Brandon Ingram out 6-8 weeks after finger surgery

Brandon Ingram will miss 6-8 weeks after undergoing finger surgery, the New Orleans Pelicans announced on Friday.

The superstar forward had surgery to repair the damage in his right fifth finger, an injury he sustained in the first round of the NBA playoffs. Brandon Ingram will be ready in time for the start of the Pelicans’ training camp in September.

The former Most Improved Player of the Year played through the injury in the postseason, with the Pelicans losing to the Phoenix Suns in six games (4-2). He averaged 22.7 points, 5.8 rebounds and 5.6 assists in 55 starts.

New Orleans is expected to be a playoff contender next season, with Ingram, CJ McCollum and the returning Zion Williamson in the lineup.
