Pablo Laso is recovering from a heart attack he suffered last week, but could return to Real Madrid’s bench sooner than expected.
The head coach of the “Whites” took to Twitter and announced he will not be at “Palau Blaugrana” for Game 1 vs Barcelona on Monday night.
For his part, Real Madrid’s interim coach and Laso’s assistant, Chus Mateo, didn’t rule out the possibility of Laso returning during the series.
“The most important thing is that Pablo is feeling well. He will certainly continue to coach our team. We feel happy about him being healthy.
Are we going to compete without Pablo (in Game 1)? Yes, but we need to play basketball and find a way to win,” Mateo told media pregame.
The medical staff of Real Madrid will decide whether Pablo Laso will be cleared to return to the bench in the ACB Finals.
Games 1 and 2 will be played in Barcelona’s home court on Monday and Wednesday before the series shifts to Wizink Center for Game 3 on Friday.
