Nikola Vucevic set to have contract extension talks with Bulls

Nikola Vucevic is entering the final year of his contract with the Chicago Bulls and is set to discuss a new deal with the franchise.

The star big man of the Bulls will earn $22M this coming season, while Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun Times reports that the two sides will discuss a new, two-year deal (1+1). Nikola Vucevic and the Bulls are set to engage in talks during September’s training camp.

“I do think we have the talent to match up with all the teams in the East. Nothing happens overnight; nothing happens in one season. It takes time. As a group, you have to go through the ups and downs of the year, the successes, the failures, whatever it is. All that gives you an opportunity to grow and get better. For us, I think that could really happen. We believe we have the pieces needed to build a successful group. All the guys are motivated, so, yeah, I don’t see any reason for us to panic and take the group apart,” Nikola Vucevic told media last April.
Vooch: “I think all the great teams are built over time, nothing happens overnight… You need to give a team continuity… We talked about that in exit meetings. The core guys we have here are really good players, we work well together, it’s about taking the next step forward." pic.twitter.com/ZNDFwA2U64 — Chicago Bulls (@chicagobulls) April 28, 2022

The 31-year-old big man averaged 15.6 points, 9.7 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 0.9 blocks, and 0.8 steals in 89 games with Chicago last season.

With the addition of Goran Dragic and the new, supermax contract of Zach LaVine, the Bulls aim to return to title contention next season, after a disappointing run in the 2022 NBA playoffs.
