Denver Nuggets superstar is willing to sign a max extension with the team as soon as possible. After the elimination loss to the Warriors in Game 5, Jokic said he intends to sign a supermax deal with the Nuggets this offseason if the organization was to offer it.
After winning his first MVP, Jokic became available for a max extension worth $241M. He had to wait until this summer because he’s only six years in the league. The Nuggets have no reason not to maxed out their best player.
“If offer’s on the table, of course, I’m gonna accept it because I really like the organization,” Jokic said following Game 5 loss to Golden State, via Mike Singer of the Denver Post.
Jokic finished the Game 5 vs the Warriors with a massive 30 points, 19 rebounds and eight assists performance. He almost willed Denver to a Game 6 as the Warriors slipped past with a 98-102 victory.
The Nuggets’ shooting from deep played a huge factor in their defeat as they managed only 6-of-29 from the 3-point line. Jokic believes the Denver could build something special with the current personnel.
“Probably you can see through the league teams are making super teams and they’re not making any success, let’s say like that. I think we have talent.
We have players. We have pieces. We have tools. The only thing is are we going to work together. That’s the only thing,” Jokic stated.
The Nuggets will first of all need to get healthy in the offseason with Jamal Murray and Michael Porter Jr. being in the verge of their expected returns. With those two, Jokic can combine his ability to take over the game with extra scoring and playmaking.
With one season remaining in his current deal, the Nuggets are most certainly expected to offer him the max deal once he is available to sign.
