Nikola Jokic remains the favorite to win the 2021-22 regular season MVP with one month of play remaining for the end of the season, per NBA.com.
Joel Embiid lost the chance to surpass Jokic with his latest appearance vs the Brooklyn Nets Thursday night. Denver has won 10 of its last 12 games, with Jokic delivering three triple-doubles in his last seven outings, including two in a row in back-to-back games on Sunday and Monday.
As for Embiid, he lost the matchup to former teammate Andre Drummond, with Brooklyn outscoring Philly 48-26 in the paint. The Sixers shot just 13 of 44 from the paint with Embiid making just five of his 17 shots in the game. Embiid also struggled in a loss to the Miami Heat on Saturday, finishing 4 of 15 from the floor in addition to committing four turnovers.
Giannis Antetokounmpo continued his surge with the Milwaukee Bucks, who climbed second in the East two games behind the East-leading Miami Heat.
Antetokounmpo is now just 232 points away from passing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as the franchise’s all-time leading scorer. He led his team to back-to-back victories on Tuesday and Wednesday with a total of 82 points. Giannis has not been referenced enough this season despite having a better season than his two consecutive MVP runs.
The Top-5 of the list is completed by Ja Morant, who remained fourth in the rankings. The explosive point guard led the Grizzlies to the second seed in the West the previous week. Morant has scored at least 20 points in 21 consecutive games, which records as a franchise-best mark.
DeMar DeRozan remains in the Top-5 despite a huge drop in the Bulls’ winning record during the last week. The Bulls have lost five of their last six games. In their only win, DeMar DeRozan showcased his closing ability with 16 points in the fourth quarter of the 108-114 win over Detroit. The veteran swingman finished with 36 points, eight rebounds and six assists in that game.
