New York Mayor wants Kyrie Iving to play at Barclays Center

New York City Mayor Eric Adams addressed the current situation with Kyrie Irving and his unavailability for Nets’ home games.

Adams said he wants Irving to return to the floor for home games, but noted this may be difficult to happen.

“I want Kyrie on the court. I would do anything to get that ring. So badly, I want it. But there’s so much at stake here.

And I spoke with the owner of the team. We want to find a way to get Kyrie on the court, but this is a bigger issue,” Adams told CNBC.

Adams stated the vaccine mandate doesn’t really make sense. Yet, he mentioned it would send the ‘wrong message’ to other New York workers if Irving got an exception.

“I can’t have my city closed down again. It would send the wrong message just to have an exception for one player when we’re telling countless number of New York City employees, ‘If you don’t follow the rules, you won’t be able to be employed,'” he said.

Although there was optimism Irving would be able to play at Barclays Center, it seems difficult to happen right away.

The All-Star guard currently plays only on the road for Brooklyn. Lifting the vaccine mandate and letting Irving play at home would boost the team’s chances for the title.

At the moment, the Nets are eighth in the East, at 32-29. They are one game behind the Toronto Raptors, who are seventh (32-27).
