The Brooklyn Nets are expected to part ways with their two star players as the team was unable to come to an agreement with Kyrie Irving for a new contract, which followed by Kevin Durant’s wanting out from Brooklyn.
Per Kristian Winfield (h/t HoopsHype) of the New York Daily News, after Durant’s trade demand, the Nets offered extensions to general manager Sean Marks and the rest of the front office member.
Hired in 2016, Marks helped build a strong culture in Brooklyn, attracted Durant and Irving then traded for James Harden to build a super-talented team. No matter what Marks does the rest of his tenure, the Nets simply signing him to the extension sends a loud message. The extension was reportedly signed after superstar forward Kevin Durant requested a trade out of Brooklyn. Rumors have persisted that guard Kyrie Irving wants to be traded by the Nets as well. Obviously, the Nets believe Marks can retool the team.
It was a disastrous season for the Nets, which ended with an early-playoff exit. Prior to that, Kyrie Irving refused to get vaccinated and was ineligible to play in New York until the team decided to bring him back as a part-time player.
At the top of that, James Harden requested a trade back in February, and Brooklyn sent him to Philadelphia for Ben Simmons, who did not play all season due to personal reasons and a back injury after his trade to Brooklyn.
