NBA Top Stories: The youth movement carries Knicks past Clippers

New York Knicks have endured a really disappointing season after making the playoffs last year. In the latest matchup against the Clippers, New York put an end to a seven-game skid with a 116-93 win over the LA Clippers.

The Clippers’ five-game winnings streak came to an end due to the production of the young NY Knicks core. RJ Barett put together another masterful performance with 24 points, nine rebounds and four assists.

The same goes, for Immanuel Quickley, who had 21 points, 10 rebounds and six assists. The Knicks are hoping to be part of the play-in tournament this year. The NY team is 5.5 games behind the 10th seeded Atlanta Hawks.

However, the most important thing for the franchise is to find a way to work its young core to the lineup for the remaining games of the season.

Cam Reddish, who was acquired by the Hawks a few days before the trade deadline, put up 17 points, being a plus-22 in his 25 minutes of play.

The Knicks did not find answers in their problems through the year. They have kept playing failed signings and veteran players instead of giving time to its young core to grow since the season went clearly sideways.

Head coach Tom Thibodeau is not known for that kind of process, with an exception to his first years with the Chicago Bulls during the ‘Derrick Rose era.’

With Barrett exploding in the last few games, and other talented players like Quickley, Mitchell Robinson, Obi Toppin and Cam Reddish finding space, the Knicks could be on the way to have a better season next year.

In the last five games, Barrett puts up 28.8 points on 41.4/35.5/71.9 shooting splits. The 21-years-old wing also adds 6.8 rebounds and almost five assists per contest.

Immanuel Quickley is putting up 14.6 points on excellent shooting splits of 48 percent FG%, 44 percent 3P% and 100 percent FT%.

The Knicks will have to look at what they have in their young core for the remainder of the season, hoping to build a better team next year.

The NY franchise improved to 26-38 on Sunday night. They have only won two of their last 13 with 18 games remaining for the end of the regular season.
