Jayson Tatum was from another planet on Sunday afternoon. Boston beat Brooklyn 120-126 after Tatum finished the contest with 54 points.
The Celtics, who are among the best defensive teams in the league, beat their opponents at their own game as Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant played together for the first time in a very long time.
Tatum was unstoppable, making 16 of 30 of his shots and taking advantage of every mismatch in the game. After dropping 37 against Ja Morant and Memphis on Thursday, the superstar forward was once again a force to be reckoned with on the offensive end.
He also made 8-of-15 three-pointers and 14-of-17 free throws to lead his team to its fifth win in the last six games. The Celtics improved to 39-27, and they are 5th in the Eastern Conference. They are 21-6 in the last 27 games of the season.
After a slow start to the 2021-22 regular season, Tatum found his rhythm later in the year and the Celtics climbed the standings in the East.
Since Feb.1, Boston has only two losses in 15 games, most of their wins are against high-tier teams, like Memphis, Philadelphia, Brooklyn and Miami.
Tatum is putting up 27.5 points in 46/35/85 shooting splits, along with 7.7 rebounds and 4.9 assists. The Celtics are a plus-21.4 with Tatum on the floor during this 15-game run as they scored a massive 121.5 points per 100 possessions.
That was the fourth 50-point game in Tatum’s career and the second this season. He tied Larry Bird for the most 50-point pieces in franchise history. If he continues playing at that level, he will soon surpass the Celtics’ and NBA legend.

The Celtics will hope to continue their soaring in the East facing the Hornets and the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday and Friday, respectively. Then, they will embark to a four-game trip in the West that will end up in OKC.
