The Golden State Warriors are among the teams that could land superstar forward Kevin Durant via a trade from the Brooklyn Nets.
Even though they may need a third team to get the deal done, the superstars of the Warriors would certainly entertain the idea of a reunion with the All-Star forward.
“The Warriors superstars have been in conversations with Durant. In addition to catching up, the Hall of Fame-bound peers did entertain the idea of a reunion. It was mostly about the stunning nature of it even being possible.
The idea of them playing together again had to seem impossible when Durant left in free agency in 2019. It isn’t lost on them how life has contrived an opportunity for them to come full circle. They see it, like everyone else, and talked about it, like everyone else,” Marcus Thompson II of The Athletic reports.
The NBA insider adds, though, that a reunion will be unlikely to happen if the franchise decides to defend its title with the same core.
“Sources made it clear they are fine defending their title with Wiggins, Poole and the young players they’ve been grooming to win with them. But if the universe somehow sets it up so legends reunite, they’d be open to it,” Thompson II writes.
Kevin Durant has requested a trade from the Nets and several teams have already emerged as candidates to land him.
The two-time NBA champion and Finals MVP (2017, 2018) spent three years with Golden State (2016-2019). He has four years and $194,2M left on his current contract.
