Los Angeles Lakers might be involved in Patrick Beverley sweepstakes as Utah has already making plans for a full-fledged rebuild. The LA franchise is reportedly interested in acquiring veteran guard Patrick Beverley from the Jazz.
Per NBA insider Marc Stein, the Lakers had no plans to involve Talen Horton-Tucker in a potential trade for the former Minnesota Timberwolves guard. Beverley was a salary filler in the trade that sent Rudy Gobert to Minnesota two weeks ago.
Horton-Tucker had been examined as a possibility because the Lakers don’t have any other mid-size contracts for salary-matching purposes — he’ll make $10.26MM in 2022/23, while Beverley will earn $13MM.
This summer, the Lakers prioritised becoming younger and adding more players in their early 20s. Trading away will go against the current strategy, per Stein. Beverley could offer a defensive presence in the perimeter.
As of now, the team is focusing on bringing in Kyrie Irving to LA. However, they have been unwilling to part ways with the remaining tradable draft capital, as reported in the previous weeks.
