NBA rumors: Knicks the “clear front-runner” to land Donovan Mitchell

Donovan Mitchell seems to be available for the right price and the New York Knicks are already the front-runner to secure his services, per Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report. Mitchell has been linked to the Knicks many times in case he was to become available.

The Utah Jazz General Manager Justin Zanik admitted no player is untouchable in the roster including Mitchell. Mitchell has four years remaining and $135 million of his current contract, which includes a player option for the final season.

The Knicks can put together a package around RJ Barrett,  Obi Toppin and Immanuel Quickley and they are armed with 11 first round-picks in the next seven draft to sweeten the pot.

As a Fischer reports, Barrett is considered a valuable asset and he “boasts a greater trade value across the league than Miami’s best blue-chip prospect, Tyler Herro” per NBA executives. Miami is obviously another team ready to make an offer for Mitchell, per Fischer.

In any case, no deal for the Jazz’s superstar is expected to materialized now, “barring a significant offer that Utah would be forced to consider”, as Fischer reports. The Jazz already seem to entering a new face of retooling and rebuilding.

Utah has not made any free agency moves so far to add players, but they engaged in talks with the Cleveland Cavaliers for guard Collin Sexton, who is a restricted a free agent this offseason, as Fischer wrote.

They have already traded away veteran wing Royce O’Neal to the Nets and All-Star center Rudy Gobert to the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for draft consideration and promising young players.
