NBA rumors: Heat might revisit possibility to inquire about Hawks’ John Collins

Atlanta Hawks big John Collins might be a trade candidate this season and the Miami Heat might be interested, per Zach Lowe of ESPN. The Heat inquired about Collins in the past but their interest to make a deal wasn’t strong enough.

Lowe reports that the Heat could revisit that possibility as the franchise is trying to improve its chances for a championship. Collins has been steadily part of trade rumors the last few months as the Hawks are hoping to get a decent return for the Wake Forrest product.

“There has been some Miami, John Collins chatter,” said Zach Lowe. “It’s old. It might be months old. I don’t think it was ever really serious at al. They might revisit that.” (H/T to RealGM)

Collins re-signed with the Hawks last offseason on a five-year, $125 million contract in restricted free agency. As of now, the Heat appeared more focused on making a deal for Kevin Durant or Donovan Mitchell.

Miami lost its starting power forward as PJ Tucker joined the Philadelphia 76ers, and Collins might be a potential option. The Heat have stood pat so far this offseason as they were focused on a deal for Durant or Mitchell.

However, the lack of future assets and young star players as well as their unwillingness to include Bam Adebayo in any deal might lead them in exploring other options. Collins could definitely be one of them.
