NBA Rumors: Celtics engaged in talks with Nets for possible Kevin Durant trade

After a relatively quiet week in the Kevin Durant front, the Boston Celtics emerged as a potential destination for the Brooklyn Nets’ superstar. Adrian Wojnarowski reports that the Celtics are engaged in talks with Brooklyn.

Per Woj, the news does not mean the Celtics are close to make a deal for Durant, but, their ability to offer All-Star forward Jaylen Brown as a centerpiece in offers make them a worthy team to watch in the Durant’s sweepstakes.

The Suns, Heat and Raptors are the three teams reportedly involved in serious talks for the former MVP, but the Celtics are also a strong pursuer. However, no team made an offer that can make the Nets blink and initiate the trade.

“They want a massive return that potentially includes multiple unprotected first-round picks, pick swaps and impactful players for Durant,” Wojnarowski reports. Obviously, Jayson Tatum is considered off limits but the rest of the roster might be available.

According to Woj, Boston can construct an offer based on Jaylen Brown and as many as three unprotected first-round picks (2025, 2027 and 2029) and two pick swaps (2024 and 2026). Brown has two years remaining in his current deal.

At 33 years old, Durant has four years and $198 million left on his contract. The Celtics defeated the Nets 4-0 in an Eastern Conference first-round playoff series last season. Boston looks to make a strong offseason even stronger if they acquire Durant.
