Collin Sexton and the Cleveland Cavaliers has yet to come to an understanding regarding the guard’s restricted free agency. He is reportedly demanding starting guard money, but the Cavaliers are unwilling to meet his demands and pay the luxury tax penalty.

According to Evan Dammarell of Right Down Euclid, the negotiation between the explosive guard and the Cavaliers are reportedly like a “staring contest” and apparently, neither side is willing to let up at the moment.

Dammarell also reports that the Cavs are hoping to re-sign Sexton within the range of $15.5 to $20 million per season. Obviously, he wants a bigger paycheck than what the Cavaliers are willing to offer right now.

Followed by Darius Garland’s $193 million extension, the Cavaliers will go way over the luxury tax if they meet Sexton’s demands. The explosive guard appeared in just nine games before the team shut him down for the season last November.

The Cavaliers finished with a 44-38 record without Sexton as Darius Garland and Jarrett Allen elevated their game to All-Star level play. The Alabama product has averaged 20.0 points, 3.3 assists, and 3.0 rebounds per game, playing in 218 games in four seasons with Cleveland.
