Charlotte Hornets forward Miles Bridges had an amazing 2021-22 season-the best in his young career in the NBA. The dynamic forward talked on his future with Charlotte after the disappointing play-in defeat to the Atlanta Hawks.
While, Charlotte couldn’t make the playoffs despite having the first winning season since 2016, they are plenty of positives to take from the team’s 43-39 regular season run.
Bridges is one of those positives as he averaged 20.2 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.8 assists through 80 games in the regular season. He will be a restricted free agent this summer going into his fifth season in the league.
“I would love to play with Melo and Terry for the rest of my career,” Bridges said, per Roderick Boone of the Charlotte Observer.
“Those are my guys, my brothers. All of us damn near averaged 20 (points) this year, so just to have that type of relationship with such dynamic players and bring it to the basketball court every night, you don’t see that too much in the NBA.”
The Hornets could not get past the Atlanta Hawks on Tuesday in a must-win game. The Hornets shot only 37.8 percent from the field with Bridges, Ball and Rozier —the top three scorers of the team—combining for just 20 made shots.
Bridges, who was fined $50,000 by the NBA on Thursday for throwing his mouthpiece into the stands after getting ejected in Wednesday’s loss in Atlanta, is one of the Hornets’ four and-maybe the most important of the bunch-free agents.
It’s unclear what offers Bridges could have in the offseason. However, during his fourth year he amped up his stock in the summers’ free agent market. Hornets will have the right to match any offer Bridges will receive.
The Hornets can also offer him an extra year on the deal, which also gives them an advantage over other potential suitors. In any case, the Hornets will have a busy summer going forward structuring a team around Ball, Bridges and Rozier.
