Milan crowned LBA champions after closing out series vs Virtus Bologna

Milan dominated Game 6 of the LBA finals series as they beat Virtus Bologna 81-64 to be crowned 2022 champions with an overall 4-2 record. With the win in Game 6, Ettore Messina and co. got revenge over the last year’s emphatic loss with 0-4 vs Bologna in the finals’ series.

Veteran forward Gigi Datome was the leading scorer for Milan with 23 points. The EuroLeague giants started the game strong and raced to a 29-16 lead at the end of the first quarter. The home side started the game with a 20-7 run.

Virtus tried to get back in the game and cut the deficit to nine (32-23) before the home side answered to keep its distance (43-36) at the end of the second quarter. Bologna could not get any closer as Milan kept its distance starting the third quarter.

Shields and co. started the second half with a 10-0 run to take a 53-36 lead with four minutes remaining for the end. Finishing with a 15-point (61-46) the third quarter, Milan never looked back and beat their rivals

Shavon Shields finished with 15 points, while Sergio Rodriguez put up a great performance with 12 points and eights assists. Milan never trailed since the start of the game and they were overall the better team in the finals six games of the season.

Amar Alibegovic (11 points, five rebounds) and Nico Mannion (10 points) scored in double figures for the Bologna side. Virtus did not take any production from Tornike Shengelia (8 PTS, six TO) and Milos Teodosic, and lost the title in an otherwise successful season.
