Michael Porter Jr. is rehabbing from a back injury, which occurred early in the 2021-22 NBA regular season.
The Denver Nuggets could see the dynamic forward back soon, as Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN revealed Sunday. Porter went through a lumbar spine procedure that allowed him to return to the floor moving and shooting.
It’s only a matter of time to be able to be cleared for on-court contact within the next weeks. That means he could return to action sometime in March, according to Woj.
The scoring forward has been through two surgeries in his back since he has entered the NBA. Porter Jr. was picked 14th overall by Denver in 2018 but missed the entire 2018-2019 season after undergoing a back procedure.
After playing in just nine games this season, it was reported in late November that the 23-year-old was expected to miss the remainder of the campaign and undergo a third back surgery.
Porter signed a five-year, $172.5 million contract extension in the offseason. He averaged 19.0 points, 7.3 rebounds in 31.3 minutes through 61 games last year.
He shot 54 percent from the field and 44.5 percent from beyond the arc. The Nuggets hold on to the sixth seed at 35-25. Porter’s potential return could help the team make a push for a better seed in the tough West.
