Miami Heat could be lineup assets for a bigger move this offseason, according to Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report.
The Heat are already the best team in the East this year, but they wouldn’t say no to upgrading their team next offseason.
For all the noise surrounding Brooklyn and Philly, Miami has quietly risen to the top of the East. The Heat’s unrivaled depth may prove it’s biggest strength in the playoffs, but that will grow costly for Miami’s books sooner than later. Miami could accumulate a package to add a frontcourt presence alongside Bam Adebayo. According to the report, the franchise showed interest in Christian Wood of the Houston Rockets and PJ Washington of the Charlotte Hornets.
Fischer wrote that the executives around the league view Duncan Robinson as expendable, with the great play of Gabe Vincent and Max Strus. Miami could see a deal for Robinson as an opportunity to avoid luxury tax this season.
Also, Tyler Herro could be the “odd man out” if the franchise has the chance to add superior NBA talent. Considering the report, only Jimmy Butler, Kyle Lowry and Bam Adebayo are seen safe ahead of the 2022 offseason.
Herro is averaging a career-high 20.7 points per game while shooting 44.0 percent from the field and 38.4 percent from beyond the arc. He is also putting up 4.8 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game this season.
The third-year player is eligible for an early rookie extension next season. If the Heat make a deep playoff run, it seems really challenging to break the current team’s core. However, Pat Riley has made several surprising moves through the years, when an opportunity arises.
The Heat head into Friday’s game vs Cleveland with a 44-23 record and hold a two-game lead over the Milwaukee Bucks in the Eastern Conference.
