The Dallas Mavericks are looking to add more firepower after losing Jalen Brunson in free agency. The Mavs had been linked with Irving after Shams Charania of The Athletic reported that they were one of the “several suitors” for the playmaker.
Now, according to Callie Caplan of the Dallas Morning News, the Mavericks have very little interest in involving in the Kyrie Irving sweepstakes. One of the main reasons for the Mavs’ stance is referred to the culture coach Jason Kidd has established since last season.
Irving remains with the Nets, and while it’s likely he’ll get moved, the biggest question is more on when it will happen. Brooklyn is focused on dealing Kevin Durant. The Lakers seem to be the team pressing more for Kyrie Irving.
One would have expected the Mavericks to be all over Kyrie Irving after losing Jalen Brunson. It’s still unclear what move Dallas will make in order to replace Brunson as the team only re-signed Theo Pinson and acquired JaVale McGee in the free agency.
As for Irving, The Lakers remain the frontrunner to land him, but Brooklyn has complete control of what they can do and to whom they can send the playmaker. Irving has one more season in his current deal after opting in last month.
Mavs have very little interest in a Kyrie trade. I’ve heard Nets reached out, but for one, Jason Kidd would have to wildly shift his “chemistry and accountability” buzz words. And that’s before factoring in compensation, fit, etc. But always nice to see friends being friendly! — Callie Caplan (@CallieCaplan) July 10, 2022
